::music::Would You Go With Me, from the album Your Man by Josh Turner
Walking into the mall today, I knew what it was I wanted. I walked up to the door through the brisk fall winds, glad for the hoodie I'd pulled over my head before I left the house. But I had a mission.
I thought to myself that I might have made it more of an occasion. You know, wait until a little later where I might take a little more time; do a little window shopping; enjoy the hustle and bustle of the people around me. I tend not to mind that so much: a little extra traffic...or a few more people crowding around me. It must have something with the human social tendencies that are a part of me.
But today, I decided that it must have not been that important to me. I mean, I was here already wasn't I? I hadn't thought of it earlier, had I? I only really needed one thing, right?
So, as I followed the couple in front of me, catching the swinging door while it was still open, I stepped inside, priding myself that, yes, I was the type of person who could do this: walk into the mall with a purpose, and achieve that purpose, unwavering, undistracted, and walk out again without ever being drawn to stop for something superfluous.
So I made my one stop. I asked my questions of the store attendant. I made my selection. I completed my purchase. And I proceeded to make good on my little vanity.
Until...
I smelled it before I saw it. And glancing over, I didn't even have time to decide. I just wandered in. My only guilt was the fact that I was walking to the main exit! And Yankee Candle just had to be right there on my left as I strolled by...
To my credit, though I perused the display within the store, I did not buy anything. But that was soley based on the fact that I knew that Pier 1 Imports candles are so much better!
Yes, I let myself down. I could've exited that mall with not so much as a glance other than what I intended. Yet I comfort myself with this fact: I am now successfull as a cross-shopper. Maybe I already know what I want. And I am capable of doing nothing but that. But when presented with this opportunity, I took it. And in so doing, educated myself as to the next purchase I intend to make.
I guess I didn't let myself down afterall!
