What do you think?

So, let me hear from you guys...

Lying AND/OR Deception

What are the issues? Is there a difference? Is one right and the other wrong? In what situations? What do you think? Anything?.............

Ok… that’s a loaded question. If we are commanded not to lie… the fact that it is part of God’s law… I guess that would make lying a sin.

Now the deception thing… whew… talk about opening a can of worms…
If lying is withholding a part of the truth… or leading a person to believe something other than that which is reality… then Jesus himself is a liar, because in the garden when he was talking to Mary… he withheld the fact that He was Jesus… knowing full well she perceived Him to be the gardener... so withholding info... and leading somebody on can't always be wrong.

But when is it right???

Good question… I mean in Acts 5 you have this dude Ananias dealing in real-estate..keeps some money for himself… pretends that he is giving it all to the church and well… we all know what happened to him… not cool… he didn’t even say that he was giving it all… I understand his wife dying later… she flat out lied…’yes, we sold the land for so much.’ That sort of makes sense.

BUT...God did give Jacob the blessing even though he deceived his dad to get it! (hmmm…)
But then again... He went off and killed Ananias…

I hate to take a stand that is based on situational ethics… (I was raised baptist) although if I were honest… I think that the situation really does play a role...

like... don't pretend to give all your money to the church... but you can pretend to be your brother to get his blessing.

What do you think?
