New Years Resolutions

"According to a recent study about half of the people in the United States make New Years' resolutions. I didn't quite get the percentage on how many keep them.

I think that they're good things. Because, you know the old adage, "If you aim at nothing, you're going to be sure and hit it."

But for those of you who aren't making resolutions this year, you've decided that they aren't for you, then I've got something you can spend your time on instead. Just think about some of these questions that I call 'ponderables'. Things that we need to aswer for and it's hard to come up with an answer. So if you don't want to make a resolution, just come up with the answers for some of these questions.

Help me out with this:

When someone says, "A penny for your thoughts," and you put in your two cents, what happens to the other penny?

If a pig looses it's voice, is it disgruntled?

Why do women wear evening gowns to nightclubs? Shouldn't they be wearing nightgowns?

If a person who plays the piano is a pianist, then why isn't a person who drives a race car a racist?

If "I am" is the shortest sentence in the english language, could it be that "I do" is the longest?

If people from Poland are called Poles, why aren't people from Holland called Holes?

If lawers are disbarred and clergymen are defrocked, doesn't if follow that electricians can be delighted? and dry cleaners depressed?

So listen, if you dont want to do resolutions, you work on those. And at the end of the year, get back to me.

But seriously, I really think that New Years' resolutions are quite biblical. In fact, I think that every believer who names the name of Christ should have at least one resolution. And our example is the Apostle Paul. Look what Paul says in Philippians: "But one thing I do, fogetting what lies behind, and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." His resolution is towards the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. And how is he going to accomplish that? Reaching forward. Forgetting what lies behind. Pressing on. Do you see that? If that isn't a resolution, I don't know what is.
That was from Pastor Jim.

Me? I resolved the following:

Resolved: to really act on my prioritization and do first things first
Resolved: to record two full albums of original music
Resolved: to finish paying off all debts

well, actually, you should be one cent richer, and there would be two cents unaccounted for.
