Phantasmagorica

To once have loved
and then again
To be deprived
of if or when

There in the rocks
I lay, spread bare
To clench my fist
I do not dare

All too soon
the moment passed
Snuffed, like the ash
into the past

The music floats
the notes ring out
The night, it falls
without a shout

Deep in my heart
a phantom rises
Nay, not one
but a thousand reprises

Sweetness alone
doth never bide
But pain also
there by it's side

If a cure
be ever found
Pray, revive my heart
from under ground

From where I stand
all rivers run south
Even as these words
fall from my mouth
