Of Work Ethic & The Fair

I've worked for all sorts of people. And seen all different types of work ethic played out; in the attitudes of employees as well as employers. Pretty much, i've discovered there a few stereotypes here that every employer will fit into. First off, you have the:

Perfectionist: this supervisor would rather have you stand by and watch them do it right. Even if it means taking three times as long. They tend to micro-manage like crazy and are found in a small business situation such as individual contracting.

Slavetrader: This guy pretty much doesn't care about quality control. He's about production. And when you're standing around, you're not producing. They tend to treat their whole job as an opportunity to guilt-trip you into "doing what you're paid to be here for", and are typically found in a dead-end company where they have no opportunity for creativity or advancement.

Paycheck Collector: This supervisor is pretty much working for the exact same reason you are: the paycheck. Neither of you could care less about how the job gets done, except for making sure you don't get written up or fired. This boss tends to do a great job of turning a blind eye and accepting bribes. (They're usually fun to work for, too, but not the kind of person you would normally associate with outside of business.) This kind of supervisor can only be found in a company large enough that they can be lost among the masses, otherwise, they, or you, would never get away with it!

Liability-Insurance-Policy-Non-Holder: This boss is they kind of guy i was working for yesterday. Similar to the perfectionist, the LIPNH is only found in a small business...if it can be called that. These are your construction contractor types who hire highschool students from church on a cash/hourly basis. There are no tax forms to fill out, no withholdings, and most importantly (bringing me to my main point) no insurance. This supervisor is very careful to inform you that you are on your own. If you get injured on the job (and they're typically fairly precarious work sites), you are on your own. This boss tends to be lenient about extra breaks, days off, and showing up late/long lunches. To quote the fella i happen to be working with this week:
"Whatever you do, be careful to not get too hot.
(It's 95 degrees out here in Tulsa, for cryin' out loud! with 95% humidity...nuff said)
"So, be sure to have lots to drink.
"And if you need, work five minutes, take a break, then work another five minutes."
You better believe i did! ;)

Ok, so i promised pictures from the fair/Avalon concert...so here goes:

This was an outdoor concert. It wasn't the best lighting for a camera phone! but still, it was awesome to see these guys live. As i described to sharon, they're a traditional-type singing group with a very contemporary flair...not to mention their love for the Lord!

And here are the three stooges... Samuel, Me, and Ryan ...boy did we have fun...I don't think we'll ever stop lovin Hollister! ;)

This was the only pic we got...right before the sales guy came cruisin' on by, informing me that I was sitting on $56,000. Oh, well...so much for a photo op! but it was a sweet car!!!
